Have you ever been asked,
“Do you know, other than students and teachers, how many people work in the school?”
This week, at AXIS, in our Grade 1 class, students found their answers.
Since last week, students from Grade 1 have started working on a new project of UOI (Unit of Inquiry) called “How do we organize ourselves & who is in charge?”. In this unit, students can learn and explore a lot of roles and their job responsibilities in the school and understand the concept of teamwork and collaboration as well. In addition to the classroom learning, this time, kids also got an opportunity to visit different offices in our school and talk to the people they may see before, but do not really know who they are. At the end of the unit, kids will work in groups and choose one role model from the school to create their own workspaces.
“Our Grade 1 students are familiar with the primary/ECC teachers and people around them, but they are not so aware of the other departments that work continuously to make sure our school day is effective, safe, and successful. For example, they see the school nurse doing the COVID test in the school, but they do not really get to connect to her; they see the security guard every morning when they come into the school, but they do not really know what they actually do. We want to take our students to find out more about the roles and responsibilities of the different departments around the AXIS, how they work together, and how they connect to the Grade 1”. Said Ms. Lexi, the Grade 1 homeroom teacher.
Thus, this week, our little “visitors” went out of the classroom to visit the school offices. Our staff members shared their job responsibilities and work procedures with the kids. Kids, always, were keen on asking questions when they saw the new things and heard the new ideas. Our staff members felt so happy to answer the questions. Some of the questions were creative and even “soul-crushing”.
Throughout the week, Grade 1 students talked to the staff members from various school offices including Admissions, Marketing, IT, Nurse, Security, and Cafeteria.
Here are the scenes from the visits. Our kids are the cutest visitors ever. 😉
