DESCRIPTION:Last week\, our Middle School and Pre-AP Art students visited the TCCA Art Center to explore a contemporary typography exhibition that celebrates the visual power of letters\, symbols\, and words. \nDuring the first two morning periods\, students and teachers immersed themselves in a wide range of presentation formats\, including large-scale installations\, posters\, sculptural works\, and interactive pieces that highlighted how typography can function as both graphic design and a creative art form. The exhibition encouraged students to think about language not just as something we read\, but as something we can see\, feel\, and experience in space. \nAfter taking time to observe and discuss the artworks\, students spent thirty minutes sketching and responding to the pieces that captured their attention. This quiet drawing time allowed them to notice small details in composition\, texture\, and layout\, connecting ideas from the gallery back to the skills they are developing as individual artists. \nThis trip links directly to our current art curriculum. Middle School art students are beginning a project on making and binding zines\, pop-up and interactive books\, and potentially digital publications—all of which require thoughtful use of typography\, page layout\, and the sequencing of images and text. Pre-AP Art students are starting Unit 4\, “Creating Within Constraints\,” where typography becomes a rich yet focused prompt: although type can feel limitless in its visual possibilities\, it is still grounded in the structure of words\, letters\, and meaning\, providing a framework for creative problem-solving. \n🌟🌟🌟 \nHere are some insightful reflections from a few of our art students: \nG9 Student A – “Art is not limited to painting; it can be presented in any form.” \nG8 Student B – “The TCCA was a very unique experience\, especially the blue light flashlight. I gained a better understanding of modern artwork and connected with friends.” \nG9 Student C – “Art can be done anywhere\, by anyone.” \nG8 Student D – “The art trip was actually really interesting. SUMMARY:A Week to Fall in Love with Reading AXIS图书周精彩回顾
DESCRIPTION:During the first week of March\, it was AXIS Book Week once again! Students had a great time and enjoyed reading throughout the week. Our Library Department prepared a variety of engaging activities for students\, including a Lucky Draw\, Reading Passport program\, Secondary Read for Primary\, Book & BBQ Night\, Book Fair\, and Dress-up Day. \n1️⃣ Reading Passport \nOn Monday\, the Reading Passport Program was designed to monitor and boost student engagement\, celebrate achievements\, and provide recognition for reading. Students earned a stamp upon completing each activity ✌️ \n2️⃣ Secondary Read for Primary \nOn Tuesday\, our AXIS big brothers and sisters from the secondary school visited primary classrooms to read to the younger students.  Secondary students selected books and interacted with the primary students by asking and answering questions. This interaction is a cherished AXIS tradition during every Book Week\, and we all love it! \n3️⃣ Book & BBQ Night \nOn Wednesday night\, parents who signed up for “Book & BBQ Night” came to campus to enjoy delicious food with their children. After dinner\, parents accompanied students to the library for a cozy reading session together. To cap off the evening\, the school choir performed a special Candlelit Choir Performance in the library\, providing a reflective and magical conclusion to the night. \n4️⃣ Book Fair \nFrom Wednesday to Friday\, a book fair was hosted on campus by vendors\, allowing students to browse and shop for various titles. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to explore different books\, including fiction\, non-fiction\, picture books\, and magazines. \n5️⃣ Dress-up Day & Assembly \nOn Friday\, students and teachers dressed up and gathered in the auditorium to celebrate their achievements throughout Book Week. The Library Department also prepared a special surprise: a library bag for students to keep their borrowed books organized and ensure they are returned on time. \nAt AXIS\, we are committed to creating numerous activities and opportunities for students to read\, encouraging them to engage with peers and families. We believe that reading should be a joy for everyone. Reading is not just a short-term task; it is a lifelong journey to pursue. \n  \n三月第一周，“AXIS图书周”又来了！学生们度过了愉快的一周，尽情享受阅读的乐趣。我们的图书馆老师们为大家准备了一系列丰富多样的活动，其中包括抽奖，阅读护照计划，中学生为小学生讲故事，图书&烧烤之夜，图书展，以及装扮日等。 \n1️⃣ 阅读护照计划 \n周一，“阅读护照计划”开启，这个计划能够帮助追踪和提升学生的参与度，庆祝取得的阅读成就，并对他们的阅读行为给予肯定。学生们每完成一项活动即可获得一枚印章✌️ \n2️⃣ 中学生为小学生讲故事 \n周二，来自我们AXIS中学部的大哥哥大姐姐们来到小学教室为小学生们讲故事。中学生们挑选了书籍并通过问答的方式与小学生们互动。这样的互动形式是每年图书周一直保留下来的AXIS传统，我们都非常喜欢！ \n3️⃣ 阅读&烧烤之夜 \n周三晚上，报名参加“图书&烧烤之夜”的家长进入校园，与孩子们一起享用美食。晚餐后，学生和家长一起在图书馆里度过了一个温馨的阅读时光。而后，学校合唱团在图书馆里进行特别的烛光合唱表演，为这个充满反思与魔力的夜晚画上句号。 \n4️⃣ 图书展 \n周三至周五，我们在校园里举办了一场由商家主办的图书展，学生们可以浏览和购买丰富多样的书籍。学生们借此机会可以探索不同类型的图书，包括小说、非小说、绘本和杂志等。 \n5️⃣ 装扮日&集会 \n周五，学生和老师换上不同的人物装扮，齐聚礼堂，共同庆祝这一周来大家所取得的学习成果。图书馆老师们还发布了一个小惊喜——图书馆专属帆布袋——用来规整借来的图书，也能随时提醒学生按时归还图书。 \n在AXIS，我们致力于为学生创造丰富多样的阅读活动和机会，鼓励他们与同伴和家人共同参与。我们相信，阅读是每个人的乐趣所在。阅读不是一个短期任务，更是一个值得终身追求的目标。 \n

DESCRIPTION:History was made in AXIS Sports last weekend by our U19 Football and U15 Volleyball teams! \nThe U19 Football team traveled to Dongguan\, Guangdong\, to participate in a Fujian vs. Guangdong Invitational Tournament hosted by AXIS this past Saturday. Competing outside of Xiamen was a great experience for the boys. The games were extremely competitive\, but in the end\, AXIS brought home second place\, marking the school’s first-ever high school team sports trophy! Team captain Alhareth scored a total of four goals on the day of the competition. \nThe following day\, more history was made back in Xiamen! \nThe U15 Volleyball teams\, both boys and girls\, showed the local FISSCA league what a year of hard work and dedication from players and coaches truly looks like. The transformation in both AXIS teams was inspiring. The boys fought valiantly in their tournament\, finishing in third place\, while the girls continued their historic run by defeating two other strong international schools. Then\, our girls ultimately earned a third-place finish of their own. DESCRIPTION:Video-Celebrating Chinese New Year 2026 视频-闽韵北风 菁彩同庆 \nOn Friday\, all students and teachers gathered to participate in the celebration of Chinese New Year (CNY) 2026\, organized by our Chinese Teaching Group. The event was divided into two sections: the CNY Fair and the CNY Performance. At 8:30 am\, the Lion Dance opened the CNY festivities\, creating a lively atmosphere for the fair. \nThe fair was split into two sub-sections: the Hometown Hall of Minnan and the Northern Cultural Street\, where students could explore and experience various CNY traditions and customs. In the Hometown Hall of Minnan\, students learned local accents\, made special rice cakes\, tried their hand at rubbing art\, and sang in the Minnan KTV. In Northern Cultural Street\, they participated in traditional CNY games\, watched sugar painting demonstrations\, experienced paper cutting\, took family photos\, and enjoyed special festive foods. \nAfter the fair\, students and teachers made their way to the auditorium for the CNY performance. Students showcased their talents on stage\, presenting beautiful acts that highlighted CNY elements. They played instruments\, sang\, and danced together\, bringing the festive spirit of CNY to life and receiving thunderous applause from the audience. \nDuring the week\, secondary students engaged in various hands-on activities during advisory time. They wrote their own CNY scrolls\, created red packets for the Year of the Horse\, and made and cooked glutinous rice balls and dumplings. They also competed with their artwork and played games to celebrate CNY. This elite event brought together top-performing teams from regional rounds for a multi-day business simulation experience. \nCompeting within the Creator Economy framework\, Nick\, Kinzley\, and Jarrod collaborated with five students from Shenzhen schools to form a joint Senior Division team. Together\, they worked through a rigorous program that combined operational decision‑making\, trading challenges\, and multiple formal roadshow presentations. The schedule was demanding and required sustained focus\, strategic thinking\, and adaptability. They were ultimately honored with a Rising Star Award in recognition of their effort\, growth\, and competitive spirit. \nMeanwhile\, Amy’s team delivered an outstanding performance\, winning the Viral Impact Pioneer Award for their creative communication and market impact. \nThroughout the competition\, students demonstrated resilience and professionalism. They invested significant time refining their business concept\, preparing polished presentations\, designing and promoting their booth experience\, and making thoughtful strategic decisions under pressure. The event welcomed the entire school community—students\, teachers\, and parents to shop\, and contribute to a meaningful philanthropic cause. \nIn preparation for the market\, the Grade 5 students worked diligently to plan\, organize\, and create an exciting array of products and activities. They even conducted a Shark Tank-style presentation for our school leadership team\, where they confidently pitched their business ideas\, explained their thought processes\, and made persuasive calls to action. \nAt the market\, they offered delicious food\, refreshing drinks\, engaging toys\, and fun games— all made possible by our talented young entrepreneurs. This market holds great significance for our students. It was a student-driven project that evolved from an idea into reality. We witnessed impressive academic and personal growth\, as they transformed from Grade 5 students into budding young entrepreneurs\, exhibiting confidence\, focus\, and clear communication in their business endeavors. DESCRIPTION:Last week\, our secondary students participated in a virtual live talk with a current PhD student from MIT\, Mr. Mackie\, who is conducting cutting-edge research in Sustainable Energy. He shared his recent experiences related to aurora research and physics\, including a visit to Alaska. He showcased stunning photographs of the aurora that he captured and discussed the measurements and experiments involved in taking these images. \nHe also shared his academic career path\, discussing the subjects he chose in high school\, how he decided on his undergraduate major\, and the process of applying to graduate school. His insights were particularly helpful for our secondary students\, especially those in high school who will be applying to universities in the next year or two. \nBy the end of the session\, he welcomed questions from our students and teachers who were interested in his research fields and experiences. DESCRIPTION:Our KG students proudly shared their learning from the unit How We Organize Ourselves\, exploring how transportation systems support communities and help people stay connected. They investigated transport from the past\, present\, and future\, used AI to creatively imagine new possibilities\, and designed detailed community maps to show how different routes and modes of transport connect important places. \nThe students also shared how their storytelling and writing have grown\, from detailed drawings to adding words and simple sentences. For many\, this was their first time on stage holding a microphone\, and they demonstrated incredible bravery\, confidence\, and curiosity. SUMMARY:Meet Ancient Syria:   A Secondary Art Adventure  中学艺术之旅——遇见·古叙利亚文明
DESCRIPTION:On December 16th\, our middle and high school students embarked on an inspiring educational journey to the Xiamen Museum’s exhibition\, “Narrating Civilization: Syrian Antiquities.” For Middle School Social Studies and Art students\, as well as our Pre-AP\, AP Art\, and Ceramics students\, this was an opportunity to step into a world where history and art intersect. They encountered nearly one hundred artifacts that tell stories tens of thousands of years old\, ranging from statues and tablets to early writing systems. The experience sparked genuine fascination\, with many students expressing surprise at the advanced craftsmanship\, symbolism\, and engineering evident in objects created millennia ago. Standing before artifacts previously seen only in textbooks helped them connect classroom learning to the tangible history of human creativity and innovation. \nThe visit was rich with cross-curricular opportunities. For our Middle School\, High School Art\, and Ceramics students\, it served as a class in curation and presentation techniques—perfectly timed as our Ceramics class prepares to create and present its own first exhibition. Our AP and Pre-AP students connected the experience directly to their projects. One AP student\, exploring the concept of rewilding and nature reclaiming human-made objects\, found inspiration in the weathered artifacts and the exhibition’s themes of civilizational rise and decline. Pre-AP and Middle School Art students reflected on their recent projects\, which often appropriate historical art styles\, through this new lens. \nA major highlight was the opportunity to visit all of the museum’s other permanent and special exhibitions. This allowed students to delve into local history\, trace the ceramics heritage of renowned centers like Dehua and Jingdezhen\, and appreciate exquisite traditional Chinese paintings. These additional viewings provided a powerful comparative perspective\, enabling students to exchange cultural understandings and reflect on the commonalities and contrasts between these artistic traditions and their own. As they moved through the galleries\, students actively compared early Syrian pieces to later works\, discussing how civilizations evolve in their art\, technology\, and storytelling. They asked thoughtful questions about ancient tools\, materials\, and what the artifacts revealed about daily life and belief systems. \nA poignant symbol of deep historical ties was a Ming dynasty blue-and-white porcelain plate inscribed in Arabic—a fitting illustration of the ancient trade and cultural exchange between China and Syria. \nWe are proud of our students for engaging thoughtfully with this world-class exhibition. In-person experiences like this\, which connect classroom learning to the wider worlds of art and history\, make these concepts relevant and vividly alive. For the students\, it was a challenge completed with pride; for parents\, a chance to rediscover their children’s resilience and rhythm beyond the classroom. \nBeyond the running route\, the open field became a lively gathering spot. Parent volunteers set up stalls with grilled sausages\, lemon tea\, smoothies\, and fruit soup\, adding a sense of warmth and community. After finishing their runs\, students gathered by the stalls to rest\, while parents and teachers exchanged conversations. The blend of activity and interaction filled the space with energy. Representatives from leading universities across the United States\, United Kingdom\, Australia\, Europe\, and Singapore met with our Secondary students and their parents to discuss academic programs\, campus life\, and the admissions process. \nThe event created an inspiring and supportive space for students to explore diverse higher education pathways and gain valuable insights into their future studies. Many AXIS students shared how meaningful it was to engage directly with the university representatives. Each note they played was more than music; it was a reflection of their dedication\, focus\, and the quiet confidence that grows from encouragement and care. The hall was filled with warmth and pride as families and teachers watched these young musicians share their hearts through sound. \nFrom the gentle keys of the piano to the lively rhythm of drums\, from the grace of the violin to the breath of the flute and the charm of the accordion—every performance told a story of growth. It was not only about musical achievement\, but about perseverance\, creativity\, and the joy of expressing oneself. \n \nBehind every performer stood the steady love and support of parents and the guiding hands of teachers. Their patience\, belief\, and countless hours of practice together made this evening possible. This initiative helped newcomers familiarize themselves with key locations\, including restrooms and locker areas\, ensuring they felt comfortable navigating their new surroundings. \nA significant highlight of the day was the introduction of the Toddle app\, an essential communication tool for parents. Led by our IT Director\, Mr. Said\, new parents participated in a session that demonstrated the app’s features\, empowering them to connect effectively with the school and stay updated on their children’s progress. \nAs the 2025-2026 school year begins\, the New Family Day marked a successful step in welcoming families to the AXIS community.
