Fostering Belonging From Day One 开学第一课：归属感

The first week of school is a whirlwind of excitement and new beginnings. At AXIS, we see this not as a challenge, but as our greatest opportunity.
开学第一周总是充满了兴奋与新起点。在AXIS，我们并不将其视为挑战，而是看作最重要的机遇。
Our primary school’s main theme is Community, and every activity during these crucial first days is intentionally designed to ensure every child—whether a new face or a returning friend—feels a profound sense of belonging and connection from the moment they arrive.
小学部以”社区”为核心主题，在关键的最初几天里，每个活动都经过精心设计，确保无论是新生还是返校生，从踏入校园那一刻起就能感受到深刻的归属感与联结。
Each child is welcomed into a space that is unmistakably theirs. From seeing their name proudly displayed on walls and cubbies to finding it on their very own desk, these small details provide immense comfort and a sense of ownership over their new environment. Teachers then use activities for connection like sharing holiday photos, fun introduction games, and collaborative play to quickly break the ice, build the first threads of friendship, and establish a strong, positive class identity.
Nowhere is our partnership-focused approach more vital than in our Early Years (ECC1, ECC2). For many of our youngest learners, this is their first ever experience of school. We work hand-in-hand with parents to support this significant transition from home to school life.

In Secondary, every new student is paired with a selected learning buddy—an existing AXIS student who provides a friendly face, answers questions, and helps them navigate the social and academic rhythms of school life from a peer perspective.
The secondary advisors develop activities, introduce students to the AXIS culture, while also focusing on social-emotional learning (SEL) to equip them with the skills to manage the transition, build resilience, and foster healthy relationships.
初高中部为每位新生匹配专属”学习伙伴”——由在校生担任向导，解答疑问，帮助新生适应校园生活与社交节奏。导师们开展专项活动，在介绍学校文化同时，通过社交情绪学习（SEL）培养学生的适应能力、抗挫力和健康人际关系构建技巧。
We didn’t forget our parents. It is essential that our parents feel just as informed and connected as our students. To welcome them into our educational partnership, we hosted our annual Back to School Night. This event provided parents with a valuable opportunity to walk their child’s schedule, personally meet every teacher, and gain a clear understanding of the academic expectations and curriculum for the year.
This open dialogue is a cornerstone of our community, ensuring we are all aligned and working together to support each student’s success and well-being.
