Last week, our secondary students participated in a virtual live talk with a current PhD student from MIT, Mr. Mackie, who is conducting cutting-edge research in Sustainable Energy. He shared his recent experiences related to aurora research and physics, including a visit to Alaska. He showcased stunning photographs of the aurora that he captured and discussed the measurements and experiments involved in taking these images.
He also shared his academic career path, discussing the subjects he chose in high school, how he decided on his undergraduate major, and the process of applying to graduate school. His insights were particularly helpful for our secondary students, especially those in high school who will be applying to universities in the next year or two.
By the end of the session, he welcomed questions from our students and teachers who were interested in his research fields and experiences. Overall, this session was a success, providing our students with a valuable glimpse into the life of a PhD student and a firsthand look at his daily research activities.
